How to Make a 6-Figure Income in a Down Economy

I remember the exact year I became a 6-figure woman…it was 2004. Up until then, I made what the “median” average income was according to the US Government statistics; which was probably in the $40,000 to $50,000 range. That’s not much when you are a single mom with 3 young kids to support!

Thank God I found the book, Secrets of Six Figure Women by Barbara Stanny which turned the light bulb on for me and gave me the awareness of other women who were making a six figure income.

Are you on the right Career Path?

My girlfriend stopped by today and told me an interesting story….

The day before yesterday she was sitting at her desk and feeling very unfulfilled; like there was something more. So she said a prayer to God, the Universe, the Angels, loved ones who had passed on…and any one out there who was listening to her…her prayer was simply asking that her life purpose be revealed to her because she was feeling so unfulfilled.

The very next day she was terminated from her job….her 6-figure job!!! Apparently, the company she worked for had an investor looking at them and consequently decided they needed to get rid of a few people and she was one of them.

I told my friend that instead of going job searching she needed to go soul searching. To really go inside and see what the next step is.

In the middle of the night after she was terminated, a business name came to her “Triage” and she is starting her own consulting firm doing what she absolutely loves, is passionate about and feels she can make a difference in people’s lives — which for her is being the connector between companies and technology.

My girlfriend has been on a spiritual path this year…working with lots of holistic practitioners and I’ve seen her really connecting with her spirit and her essence.

There’s a saying “Getting fired is nature’s way of telling you that you were in the wrong job.” My friend is very excited about the new possibilities that exist for her. The unknown scares most people, but it can be an incredible place of power if you just trust that you are being guided and taken care of. When you have that deep trust then you learn to take one step at a time towards your dream. And sometimes the next step doesn’t reveal itself until it’s the right time for you to take it. It’s a complete act of faith.

Are you fulfilled in your career?
Do you feel like there is something more?

The answers are inside of you and the way to access them is through stillness and silence. You “know”. You “know” what you really want to do.

Martha Beck, contributor to Oprah’s magazine, and author, wrote an article this month on 20 questions you should ask yourself and one of them from the article is:

“Is this what I want to be doing?
This very moment is, always, the only moment in which you can make changes. Knowing which changes are best for you comes, always, from assessing what you feel. Ask yourself many times every day if you like what you’re doing. If the answer is no, start noticing what you’d prefer. Thus begins the revolution.”

We have to stop looking for external validation and instead go inward and look to our hearts and our spirits that know the answers.

When the student is ready…the teacher appears. Start noticing who and what is appearing in your life. Why are you reading this article? What are you searching for?

Life Purpose: Are You Living Your True Life Purpose?

If you are asking the question, then my guess would be that you are probably not living your life purpose. A small percentage of people seem to understand what their life purpose is at a young age, but for the rest of us, it’s something we have to discover along the way. Of course, you only discover your life purpose when you are searching for it. That’s probably what brought you to this article. Some of the signs that you are not living your life purpose are: restlessness, boredom, looking for more meaning in your life.

The most important aspect of living your life purpose is that you will have to change at the core of your being. Let’s be honest here, change is not something most people welcome with open arms. In fact John Kenneth Galbraith, an economist, reminds us about human nature, “Given the choice between changing and proving there’s no need to do so, almost everybody will get busy on the proof.”

So discovering your life purpose is about change. Are you ready to be transformed? If so, then read on.

Eckhart Tolle, in his bestselling book, “A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose” says that we actually have an inner purpose and an outer purpose. He states that our inner purpose is simply to “awaken” and that awakening is simply a “shift in consciousness in which thinking and awareness separate.” So instead of being “lost in your thinking”, when you are awake then you recognize awareness behind your thoughts.

Tolle states that our “outer purpose” concerns doing, is secondary and usually changes over time. He goes on to say that “finding and living in alignment with the inner purpose is the foundation for fulfilling your outer purpose.” If you don’t have this alignment, then you will most likely experience a great deal of struggle, effort and have no real joy in your life, which leads to suffering.

Your outer purpose, according to Tolle, is not always so much what you do, but how you do it. It’s about the consciousness you have when you “do” whatever it is you are doing. If you are awakened then whatever you are doing, you will experience acceptance, enjoyment and enthusiasm.

For years I was miserable in my job as a paralegal and legal secretary. I was stuck in my cubicle prison working on a computer all day dreaming of my escape. I was suffering and I was not living my life purpose. I certainly was not living my inner purpose or my outer purpose and it wasn’t until I left that draining environment that I actually reconnected with myself, my Spirit, my Higher Power and began finding and living in alignment. It took me several years to get to the place; it was not an overnight event.

So let’s talk about what Tolle refers to as “doing” because if you are not living your purpose then you are probably unhappy with what you are “doing”. The question you need to ask yourself daily is:

Is this what I want to be doing?

In this moment, right now, because this moment is all you have. It’s about getting in touch with your true desires, dreams, passions and preferences. It’s about knowing yourself and the only way you can know yourself is to stop all the chatter in your mind, get still and spend time with yourself every day. Meditation and journaling is a great tool that will lead you back to yourself and your purpose in life.

If you are in a job that you absolutely hate, but you stay to pay the bills then you are not living your purpose. There is no joy in spending 8 hours a day in a job that drains your spirit. Same with relationships; ask yourself, does this relationship bring me joy?

So let me ask you a question:

If money wasn’t an issue, what would you be doing?

Be honest. There are no right or wrong answers. What would you be doing right now if you had millions of dollars in the bank. Explore those answers because they will lead you to your outer purpose. Another good question to ask yourself is: What do I love to practice? Something that you absolutely love doing (not like doing, but love doing) and that you are passionate enough about it to practice it.

So really, what is it you want to be doing? Not, what you “should” be doing, but in the deepest part of your being, what is it you want to be doing. Ask this question everyday in the stillness and go in that direction.

When the student is ready, the teacher appears. I believe you are ready to find your life purpose because you are searching for it. Your spirit led you here.

Multiple Streams of Income-The Fastest Way to a 6-Figure Income

This day in age with the sluggish economy, unemployment rates skyrocketing, jobs disappearing, employee furlough days increasing, and 2 income households being reduced to 1 income households – it’s time to get creative!

In prior generations, people typically had one job and one income stream. They also had more job security; now you’ve got to take matters into your own hands and create your own financial security. The best way to do that is by creating multiple streams of income. This way, if one stream dries up, other streams are flowing in. Moreover, if you want to make a 6-figure income, then multiple streams of income is the fastest way to get there.

Making a 6-figure income is challenging these days. Before the economy went south, many people in many industries such as realtors, mortgage brokers, commission sales reps, business owners, contractors, home builders and more were making a healthy 6-figure income. I know because I was one of them.

Luckily, it wasn’t my only stream of income. I’ve watched too many people over the years be given the pink slip without any warning and I never wanted to “depend” on one job because of that. So I learned a long time ago to create multiple streams of income. If you were investing in the stock market, sage advice would be to “diversify”. Well, it’s time for you to do that with your personal income to protect yourself, your family and your assets.

I was recently looking at my income for the past 30 days and there were 15 deposits in my personal bank account. When I broke that down into categories from my different streams of income, I calculated that I have 6 streams of income. Don’t you think it’s easier to earn 6-figures from 6 streams of income ($1666.66 per month from each stream) than it would be to earn $8,333.33 per month from one stream?

I’m not saying you need 6 streams of income right away, it’s something you build up over time. It’s taken me several years to have 6 streams of income, but I have less worry and stress because if the unexpected happens and one of those sources dries up, then I have those other streams coming in. I can then re-focus my energies on the streams that are flowing in to increase that flow even more.

Here are the 6 categories of my multiple streams of income:

All commission sales job;
Base salary and commission sales job;
Online income generated from my website;
Network Marketing Income from a technology company
Direct Sales Income as an Independent Broker with an Energy company;
Rental Income.

My recommendation for you is to diversify, diversify, diversify and start creating new streams of income now. You’re probably wondering what new stream to create first?

There are 100,000 ways to make $100,000; you need to do what makes you happy and what you are passionate about. Choose something that you would do anyway, even if you weren’t getting paid. I also believe that you should choose something where you can help people; find a need and fill it.

I can’t tell you which path to choose. I can only suggest ones that I’ve chosen that have worked out for me. If you have a 9-5 job, then you’ll need to pick something you can do part-time or in your spare time. That’s why I have income from my website (online courses, coaching, writing) an outside sales job, and 2 part-time direct sales/network marketing companies as well as rental income. I can work those businesses whenever I choose to and as much or as little as I choose to. There is a lot of freedom in those types of business models.

They say when the student is ready, the teacher appears. Start looking around at different opportunities or different businesses that peak your interest, do your research and then take the leap. Don’t over analyze them either. Then once you get one new stream of income going, you can add another and another and another. If your goal is to quit your day job, that’s a realistic option when you have multiple streams of income! If your goal is to earn a 6-figure income, you have a much better chance of doing that when you have multiple streams of income coming in.

My “newest” stream of income is from a direct sales position as a Energy Broker for North American Power. I love it because it has residual income attached to it. I’ve received thousands of dollars from upfront commissions and now my residual income checks are starting to flow in and I am so excited! Do the work once and get paid over and over. Tony Robbins – Television Show on NBC

Tony Robbins is doing a television show on NBC tomorrow evening, July 27, 2010, at 8 p.m. CST, called “Breakthrough with Tony Robbins“ and I highly recommend that you either watch the show live or record it on your DVR/TIVO.

Many years ago, Tony Robbins became determined to change his life after a particularly low period in his life where he was struggling to pay his bills, overweight and without direction.

Robbins transformed his life and developed systems to change the lives of thousands more. I have listened to Tony Robbins CD program called, “”The Power to Shape Your Destiny” and I can tell you Tony Robbins has influenced my life greatly.

Rules to playing the 6-Figure Game!

Business is a game and just like any game, there are rules to winning. Let me share with you what I consider to be a few important rules to getting and staying in the 6-figure game:

Be a Visionary! Where there is no vision…the people perish. Those are strong words of wisdom from the Bible. You need a GREAT VISION because when you have a large vision it helps you become the best Business Woman you can be! If you have a great vision you will ‘grow’ into that vision. It also improves your chances of making it to the TOP! So reach for the stars and dream BIG!
Make decisions from a position of Power rather than from a position of weakness. We can all have pity parties for ourselves if we wanted to. I have faced a lot of obstacles and difficulties in the last few years, but I refuse to be a victim. Whenever I start feeling sorry for myself, I always meet someone who has many more problems than I do. We all face obstacles, we all have challenges, we all have disappointments. The only thing that distinguishes us is how we see ourselves — victim or victor? At the end of the day, my outlook is always the same: Sink or Swim. I “choose” to Swim!
Measure Everything. Keep Score. This is where men and women differ. Men count everything! Anything that can be measured, believe me, they measure it because they are keeping score. If the object is to win, you can’t win if you don’t know who is ahead can you? I’ve been in outside sales for a long time working in male-dominated industries and take my word, the guys are always figuring out who’s ahead and who’s behind. I’ve learned over the years to always know my numbers…where I am and where I want to be.
Get Noticed! Part of getting ahead in business is getting noticed! Unfortunately, many women are shy and uncomfortable with the spotlight believing that their work should stand for itself. Let me tell you straight from experience…you are not going to get in the 6-figure game being a wallflower. You don’t have to “brag” or “boast” if that’s not your style, but you do need to find comfortable ways to toot your own horn, report your victories, and let others know how great your work is!

These are just a few things for you to think about. Getting in the 6-figure game is about making the right decisions for you that take you from where you are now to where you want to be!

Increase Your Income Today By Charging MORE For Your Services/Products

Okay, we hear it over and over throughout the course of our day, “Our economy is in big trouble and millions of American families are suffering”.

So what is one to do?

With any challenge or obstacle, we always have choices. Of course, you could decrease your living expenses or you could go out and get a second job or…

If you have your own offline or online business, you could increase your fees. Many women I’ve discovered, are “undercharging” for their services anyway; not placing enough value on what they are offering.

Right now I am reading the book, “The Trick to Money is Having Some” by Stuart Wilde who is a very humorous and matter of fact kinda guy. Here is what Stuart saids about what to charge:

“Many find it hard to charge for what they do, for the ego hesitates, feels that people will react negatively. In fact, quite the reverse is the case. People like you to charge them more. It makes them feel more important. How much buzz do you get out of spending 9 cents at Woolworth’s? But a $200 meal makes you feel special. You feel you are getting value. Further, the more you charge, the more people respect you. If you do things on the cheap, people tend to get down on you and find fault with what you do. Having gotten something for nothing they begin to demand more. That’s human nature.”

We all know what Stuart is saying is true. We don’t value things that we get for nothing or almost nothing.

Let me share with you a brief story about how I doubled my fees years ago when I was teaching public speaking courses…

I received a call from a large insurance company that wanted to hire me to do a public speaking course for some of their sales people. At the time, I was busy with other things and didn’t really want the job. So instead of turning it down, I thought to myself, “Instead of charging my usual $125 per hour, I’ll double my fees to $250 per hour” and they will turn me down because it will be too expensive.”

Well, lo and behold, they didn’t even blink an eye when I told them my rates. They hired me for a 1-ay course and I made a great deal of money that day! That taught me a powerful lesson: I was worth more than I thought I was worth and the marketplace was willing to pay me a lot more than I was charging!

So, my question for you is, are you charging enough for your services and/or products? If you’re not sure, why not test it out and start charging more and see what happens.

My advice is: Always underpromise and overdeliver, but make sure you are charging what you’re worth!

Increased Wealth equals better Health!

Did you know that lower-income women are more likely to die of heart disease than women who have higher incomes?

That’s right. Research was done at the National Institute of Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, where they followed 936 healthy women for 5 years. After the 5 years, all of the women who earned over $100,000 were still alive and free from heart disease, however, only 78% of the ladies who earned less than $20,000 annually were still alive.

The research determined that a woman’s socio-economic status was the second largest risk factor.

So if you want to be healthier and live longer, it sounds like it’s a good idea to start making over $100,000!

They say “money doesn’t buy happiness” but we can all agree that it lowers your stress levels enormously and stress, as we know, is associated with a variety of very serious medical problems.

So if you want to stay healthy, start by being wealthy!

It is my purpose and passion to help women all over the world find their unique 6-figure income path. And I can assure you there is nothing better than doing what you love, making money and helping others!
